Devon's Five Best Beaches

Devon is a wonderful place with a variety of activities for you to take part in and places for you to visit – but what happened to the typical British day at the seaside?  The majority of people that visit Devon become so caught up in the wide range of things to see and do that they forget about the peace and tranquillity that only a day at the seaside can provide. So for those who prefer a relaxing weekend away; here’s a list of our five favourite beaches within Devon.

#1 – Bantham Beach
Bantham beach is a lovely little place located near Kingsbridge, close to Thurlestone. Bantham beach is one of the safest and cleanest beaches in the whole of Devon; with beautiful soft sands and shallow waters this beach is perfect for the entire family. Bantham beach is also host to a variety of water sports and leisure activities, so there’s a lot for the children to do whilst the adults relax to the sound of the sea.

#2 – Dawlish Warren
Dawlish Warren is our second favourite beach within Devon; perfect for those that are enthusiastic about seeing the local wildlife and getting some great photos. Dawlish Warren is also the centre for festivals and activities within Devon which makes it an excellent location for families and groups of friends. Dawlish Warren has also been voted one of the top 10 beaches in Devon by the Times.

#3 – Teignmouth Beach
The beaches in Teignmouth are some of the best in Britain, not just Devon; with long strips of clean sand and an old Victorian pier looking out to sea, what more could you ask for? If an unrivalled view of the ocean just isn’t enough there’s also an assortment of galleries and museums within walking distance of the promenade.

#4 – Mothecombe Beach
Mothecombe beach is a very quiet beach with little to interrupt your day of contemplation and relaxation; but there are also facilities to make your day a little more interesting. There are facilities available for you to learn a water sport or to relax with a drink in hand from the refreshment kiosk.

If the activities that we’ve mentioned aren’t enough to keep you occupied there’s enough space and for you to take part in a variety of outdoor games and activities such as volleyball, cricket or competitions such as building the best or biggest sand castle.

#5 – South Milton Sands
The beach in South Milton Sands is ideal for a traditional British holiday with bucket and spade in hand. The sand is soft and the sea laps gently at your feet – the currents here are gentle enough for you to go scuba diving or snorkelling. If you aren’t a fan of getting your feet wet there’s plenty to see if you stay on the beach as South Milton Sands is frequented by dolphins and seals.

There are many other beaches in Devon that are suitable for families or for those interested in water sports or local events. For more information on attractions and accommodation in Devon you can get in touch with us here at Highcliffe House. We provide only the best services.
