Breakfast at Highcliffe House, a rather special experience.
It’s almost a religious one for our devout returnees.
So what makes breakfast so special? For a start, the breakfast room offers spectacular views over Lynton and the Exmoor Coast. We often find our guests reluctant to break their gaze. Whether it’s the ever-changing weather, sea state or village antics below – it’s completely captivating.
The daily capers of our garden wildlife provides much entertainment. They love to watch the antics of our scurry of squirrels and ravenous birds. Over the morning chatter our guests love to sit back and listen to the soft background jazz.
For starters guests can enjoy a selection of fresh fruits and cereals from the buffet table. There are plenty of chilled fruit juices to choose from, minted water and West Country milk. Enjoy a cool organic yoghurt topped with mixed seeds or nuts.
Guests can top their toast or pastries with a wide selection of spreads and preserves. Try Tiptree’s luxurious salted caramel or chocolate spread – it’s very decadent. Or from Neal’s kitchen, a tangy homemade marmalade, strawberry, apricot or blueberry preserves. And if that wasn’t enough – moorish homemade banana loaf and freshly-baked croissant.
Our range of hot breakfast dishes very is extensive and there is something for every palate. Guests can build their own full English breakfast from a range of breakfast staples. Delicious local sausages (regular, gluten-free or vegetarian) and crispy or regular bacon. West Country free-range eggs; soft poached, scrambled or fried. A real breakfast treat – black pudding or locally-made white pudding. Mouth-watering slow-roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, crispy hash browns or Heinz baked beans.
Piping hot coffee or tea is an almost staple of a good old English breakfast. We favour locally-roasted Colombian coffee from D J Miles of Porlock, served in a French press. It’s a delicious medium roast coffee that blends well with our soft Exmoor water. If tea is a drink of choice, we have a great selection; a gentle west country breakfast blend, a punchy Assam, strong green, flower or herbal teas.
So, whether our guests are walking, exploring Exmoor or meandering though Lynton & Lynmouth – breakfast at Highcliffe House really sets them up for the day.
