North Devon's Best Beaches
The narrower funnel of Croyde Bay is the most hardcore; beginners find the waves at the other two less demanding. Saunton has the best beach café and hotel, Woolacombe the best pubs and restaurants. There's a great cafe on Putsborough Sands, the other end of Woolacombe beach. Croyde beach sports the most dreadlocks and campervans.
If you're looking for a more dramatic beach then check out 'Rockham Beach' at Mortehoe (as pictured at the top of this page). This is an incredible National Trust beach, a beautiful mix of sand, stones and rugged rocks.
Near Minehead / Porlock you will find the beautifully pebbled Bossington Beach, a real National Trust treasure.
Closer to home
The beaches above are located just 30-40 minutes drive from Highcliffe House. If you're looking for a beach a little closer to home, there are a few but not as sandy as Woolacombe, Croyde or Saunton.
Check out these beaches, all within walking distance of Highcliffe House and great for paddling, swimming or just gazing out and listening to the crashing waves.
- Lynmouth Beach
- Wringcliffe Beach (near the Valley of Rocks)
- Lee Bay (near the Lee Abbey Estate)
- Woody Bay
