Top five romantic things to do in Exmoor
Whatever the reason, Exmoor is a great place to visit and well worth exploring. If you are a couple and looking for a romantic break away, Exmoor can provide some extra special things to attract you. This post will explore some of the best reasons (although of course, there are plenty more!)
If you’re a hiker, or find a walk with that special someone relaxes you and allows you to take in the sites, Exmoor is for you. The famous and popular trail of the South West coastal path is found here, and others recommend include “Colridge Way” which meanders through the countryside or “Horner Wood” which is said to be home to the UKs largest and oldest woodland.
This is an opportunity to give something different a try. A number of horse riding stables exist allowing you both to experience Exmoor together on a lovely animal. Many happy memories can be created by doing something like this. Look out for people offering horse drawn carriage type trips, which is another romantic idea.
3) Visit the Heritage Railway.
Operating between Minehead and Bishops Lydeard the railway allows you to go back to the days of steam engines and take a gentle and pleasant trip that is romantic because it is so far removed from the hustle and hassle of everyday life. Drift off together as you drift away along the line. The Buffet Cars and Turntable Café have availably and packages for catering or even hiring carriages out – perfect for that special wedding day or a cherished proposal.
4) Go to Lundy Island.
Accordingly to the Landmark Trusts website (see: http://www.landmarktrust.org.uk/Lundyisland/,) Lundy Island “lies off the coast of North Devon, where the Atlantic ocean meets the Bristol Channel with nothing between it and America, a granite outcrop, three miles long and half a mile wide.” This is a place that doesn’t get busy even in the frantic holidays and trips of summer. For couples, it is almost the next best thing to having your own private island. With a bar / restaurant on the island, what better way to have a romantic meal set around water with magnificent views.
5) Dunster Castle.
As a National Trust site, Dunster is located near to Minehead, and is worth a visit at any time of year. In winter sparkling frost glitters the trees, while in summer fresh green foliage provides a soothing and happy atmosphere – all perfect for loving couples. Coming with gardens located on the grounds, stunning views are offered, which include being able to site the Exmoor moors. Just for a few hours you can get lost together in the castle area while losing track of the rest of the world except yourselves.
There are plenty of other romantic things to do while you stay in our area, but we have given you some starters and ideas to think about here. Why not get a pen and paper and start planning your own romantic trip and make it truly special from start to finish!?
