Devon Coast to Coast Ultra Marathon

Devon Coast to Coast Ultra Marathon

Mar 30, 9:00am - Apr 2, 8:00pm

Wembury beach
Plymouth,  PL9 0 Map

Join us in 2018 for an exciting and unique event; The 117 mile Devon Coast to Coast.

There are two ways you can join us on this special challenge:

Run 4 legs, over 4 days, covering just over a marathon a day, or complete the 117 mile route in the generous time limit of 48 hours!

30th March - 2nd April 2018.

Starting in Wembury, in the beautiful South Hams, you will follow the 17 mile Erme-Plym Trail to Ivybridge where you will meet the Two Moors Way, a 100 mile waymarked trail from the South of Dartmoor to North of Exmoor where it meets the sea in Lynmouth.

As well as the incredible views from the highpoints of the course, you will pass by many sites on the way: Grimspound stone circle, Fernworthy Reservoir, Chagford, The Teign Valley, Exe Head to name a few. The route even nips over the border into Somerset and back into Devon on Exmoor!

Have a particularly favourite part of the course, but not sure that you are able to enter the whole thing just yet? Unable to pull together a team of four for next year? Luckily we are also offering the chance to enter any of the stages individually, for example the first marathon from Wembury to the Dart valley. If this would be of interest then please get in touch.

We will ensure you are looked after, with fully-stocked checkpoints including hot drinks and hot food when you need them most!

More details to follow on locations of checkpoints, the 4-day start/finish points, as well as accommodation and transport options etc.

Put the date in your diary so you don’t miss out! Keep an eye on this page to keep up to date with the event details.

More details coming soon.

Exmoor Marathon DC2C

Exmoor Marathon DC2C

Apr 2, 8:00am

Devon Coast to Coast Ultra Marathon

Stage 4: Exmoor Marathon

Starting in the Yeo valley at Yeo Mill, you will start with a climb, it will be worth it as this will take you to the official Exmoor boundary, and the boundary stone to match the one at Drewsteignton. From here you can see right over Exmoor and towards your next destination, Barle Valley. After crossing some farmland you will reach the famous Tarr Steps, a clapper bridge made up of 17 slabs, the longest in the country.
You will follow the Barle river until you reach the village of Withypool; an opportunity to refuel before re-joining the riverside path. The path takes you to ‘Cow Castle’, an Iron Age hill fort, next to it another hill, aptly named ‘The Calf’. You then arrive in Simonsbath and from here the end of your journey is in site.
After a short climb and some open moorland, you will walk right through Exe Head, the start of the river Exe! The route then follows another river valley, that of ‘Hoaroak Water’; with high rises on both sides it will feel like just you and the ponies and brings some comfort knowing you are entering the last 10k.
Once you reach the main road into Lynmouth there is just one more climb, but it’s all worth it, because on reaching the top, you get a stunning view of the tree-covered hills, the Bristol Channel, and more importantly the finish! Heading up this winding path you reach a height of 260 metres before dropping all the way down to sea level. A little trot along the tarmac to the official finish point of the Two Moors Way, and you’re all done. There’s even a book to sign to recognise the achievement of running from coast to coast!

Maverick Inov-8 X Exmoor

Maverick Inov-8 X Exmoor

Jun 16, 9:00am - Jun 16, 7:00pm

Caffyns Farm
Lynton, Devon,   Map

New for 2018, we have added a beast of a route. This is the toughest Inov-8 X Series route on our calendar, with over 2300m of elevation, it's 300m higher than the Inov-8 Snowdonia X Series event! That should give you some idea of the challenge that awaits you here in Devon.

We are sending you along part of The South West Coast Path which is England's longest waymarked long-distance footpath and a National Trail. It stretches for 630 miles (1,014 km), running from Minehead in Somerset, along the coasts of Devon and Cornwall, to Poole Harbour in Dorset. Since it rises and falls with every river mouth, it is also one of the more challenging trails. The total height climbed has been calculated to be 114,931 ft (35,031 m), almost four times the height of Mount Everest

The route starts at Caffyns Farm and heads along the coast path at Lynton, you will be met with towering cliffs and stunning sea views across to South Wales. Soak up the stunning sounds of seabirds nesting on the cliffs. As you venture along the coast you will enter the valley of rocks, a superb section of coast path well know for its herds of feral goats. This section is among the oldest Devonian rocks in north Devon and is highly fossil ferrous.

As you continue on your way you will become lost in the splendour. We take you to Foreland Point, a rocky headland which is the most northerly point along the Devon and Exmoor coastline.

The route then sweeps back inland towards some special forested sections that make you feel like you're back in the heart of Devon. One stand out area is Watersmeet, we know you will be enchanted by this section of the route. There are many other hidden gems on the Exmoor X Series event, we don’t want to spoil it too much for you, so come and join us! The outdoors awaits...

Exmoor Coast 50

Exmoor Coast 50

Oct 6, 7:00am

Exmoor Coast

This is your chance to run or walk the entire length of coast path within Exmoor National Park.
We start at Combe Martin, and head east to finish in Minehead at the official South West Coast Path start/finish marker.
Tucked away in the Bristol Channel, this section is more sheltered than other parts of the 630 mile South West Coast Path. It has the longest stretch of coastal woodland in England and Wales, highest point on the coastline at Culbone Hill (433m), and highest sea cliff, Great Hangman (244m).
When you're not surrounded by coastal woods, there are dramatic views across the Bristol Channel to the Welsh coast and Lundy Island.
The route takes you past Hollow Brook - one of the highest waterfalls in Britain which drops 200 metres to the sea. You will also pass through the twin villages of Lynmouth and Lynton, the finish point for the 2 moors way and our Coast to Coast event. Our 30 km event starts here.
Nestled away up some winding tracks you will pass by Culbone Church, which is 10.7 metres in length and only seats 30 people; only the most dedicated make it to the services here!
Just after Porlock Bay, the path flattens behind marshland, these wetlands have helped 'preserve' an ancient forest, it's worth a few pictures of these eerie trees sticking out of the ground.
A few more ups & downs of exposed path, woodlands, sharing your journey with sheep, ponies, and cows and you will pop out in Minehead, a mere 56km from where you started!

Transport will be available to the start before the event, allowing you to run/walk back to your car.

Full support from the team at Climb South West.

Combe Martin - Minehead 55 km
3 ITRA / UTMB Points.
